Most cooled bedrooms have a fan in them. A GLN room doesn’t: slim panels on the wall warm or cool the room, and no air is blown at you.

Sound stays off until you press it.

One night, two rooms

Between 23:00 and 06:30 the fan unit started nine times, and ran harder for a while after half past two. The GLN room had no fan to start. Its loudest moment was you, turning over.

Why it’s quiet

The parts that make a sound are outside. Indoors there is no fan or compressor to start up, and nothing blows.

Outside

An outdoor heat pump warms or cools water. Its compressor and fan work out here, on the far side of the wall.

Inside

Water runs through a slim aluminium-fin panel that stands 90 mm off the wall. The room’s surfaces settle at the right temperature, and heat moves by radiation. There is no fan, no compressor, no vent and no duct in the room.

In the wall

The pipes come down inside the wall from the ceiling and join the panel with a single fitting, so none of them show.

Cool without a breeze

You feel roughly the average of the air and the surfaces around you (ASHRAE 55, ISO 7730). With the air at 27°C and the walls at 22°C, the room feels about 24.5°C, and nothing is blown at your neck while you sleep. In winter the same panels warm the walls instead.

No condensation water appears indoors.

Stand in a quiet room at the showroom

Our Wuhan showroom has a room fitted with GLN panels. Close the door, sit for a few minutes and listen. Then stand next to a panel and feel the wall.

On Fridays we stay open until 22:00, if you’d like to hear it after dark.
